| The late Guru Kalaimamani Shri Swamimalai K. Rajarathnam Pillai was a renowned Guru and a leading Proponent of the Vazhuvoor style of Bharatha Natyam. Late Shri S.K. Rajarathnam Pillai, a dance Maestro, was trained by the doyen Padmashri Vazhuvoor Ramiah Pillai. With over forty years of service to the art of Bharatha Natyam, he was an acclaimed artist and the most sought after Guru in India. He had trained and produced many brilliant dancers. He had received numerous coveted awards and titles including 'Kalaimamani', 'Natya Chelvam', Sangita Kala Sigamani', to name a few. His exquisite choreography, outstanding singing ability with a gifted melodious voice and the unique Vazhuvoor style of rendering the Jathis was not only a delight to the senses but also fulfilled the critic and connoisseur with technical brilliance and traditional purity. His sudden demise is an irreparable loss to the dance world. |
